Take-home pay a month
₹1,47,208
₹17,66,493 a year, from a CTC of ₹20,00,000
| Gross pay a month | ₹1,64,867 |
|---|---|
| PF (your 12% share) | − ₹1,800 |
| ESI (0.75%) only up to ₹21,000 a month | − ₹0 |
| Professional tax | − ₹200 |
| Income tax | − ₹15,659 |
| In hand | ₹1,47,208 |
Your CTC includes ₹21,600 a year of the employer's PF. It goes into your PF account, not your bank account.
Income tax for the year: ₹1,87,907, on a taxable income of ₹19,03,400 after the ₹75,000 standard deduction. This is an estimate; bonuses, allowances and your employer's rules change the real figure.
How it is worked out
- PF: 12% of basic pay. Most employers count basic only up to ₹15,000 a month, so PF is at most ₹1,800. The employer adds the same again to your PF account.
- ESI: 0.75% of gross pay, only when gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less. It gives you and your family medical cover.
- Professional tax: a state tax, at most ₹2,500 a year.
- Income tax (new regime, FY 2026-27): a ₹75,000 standard deduction, then nil up to ₹4 lakh, 5% to ₹8 lakh, 10% to ₹12 lakh, 15% to ₹16 lakh, 20% to ₹20 lakh, 25% to ₹24 lakh and 30% above, plus 4% cess. No tax when taxable income is ₹12 lakh or less (rebate under section 87A), so a salary up to about ₹12.75 lakh a year pays no income tax.
